ECLIPSE

Us kids lucky enough to live on the west coast got to see a (partial) solar eclipse this evening. After my dad did the "pin hole in the paper" thing, I noticed that the shadow of one of the oak trees on the back of the house was recreating the crescent shape, and that when that shadow layered itself over other shadows from different trees and vines in the backyard, some really interesting patterns were showing up.

Along with the telescope projecting the sun's image, we also used my dad's welding helmet to look directly at the sun. A bit eerie, that way, as the screen turns the whole thing green.
